How To Use
Use daily to detox, cleanse and rejuvenate. For best results, use at least four-times weekly. Apply a generous, even layer on your face or body. Let dry. Remove by rinsing with warm water. Malibu Mud Dark Sea can be used as a five-minute mask, an overnight mask, or as a spot treatment for blemished or rough skin.
We highly recommend replacing your face soap with Malibu Mud. Simply apply a generous layer to your face about 5-20 minutes before getting in the shower. Rinse away the mask for a face that's clean, detoxed and glowing. Use daily to reduce breakouts, even skin tones and brighten your skin.

This blue-grey mud-based mask has a lot of nice, natural ingredients like aloe vera. It goes on nice and smooth and thick. I don't know how long it usually takes to dry, because I forgot I had it on. It was difficult to remove although it's supposed to rinse off. I had to get a scrub and use face cleanser to remove all the residue, and my face felt super soft and moisturized even after all that. It may be easier to remove if you don't wait until it's completely dry, maybe about 10 minutes would be better.
Malibu Mud, All-Natural Face and Body Mask for Daily Detox Cleanse, Rejuvenate without Drying Your Skin-
I like this mask. It feels really soothing. Its not the thickest texture I've tried for a charcoal/dead sea -based mask but I think that is pehaps why it doesn't make my skin too dry. Usually the charcoal type masks will dry my skin and I will need to use a mosturizer after the mask. With this mask I don't feel I need a moisturizer though I do use them in conjunction with this on some occasions.
For me, the best thing about this product is the ingredients and the care taken in selecting them. I like how natural this product is. It doesn't have an artificial smell at least not one I can pick up. The ingredients are all vegan, cruelty-free, and there isn't anything artificial. This is the area that brings some justification to the price point. Though I still think it's a little steep.
The packaging is done well. I like the glass jar because it tends to keep the product fresher.
The feel of this product and the results are also great. My skin comes out looking clean and revitalized. It feels so relaxing after you apply it. Like most clay masks it has a cooling feel on the skin and as it dries it does tighten a little. Not nearly as much as other masks I have used though. When I remove it I can tell it removed oils from my skin.
Overall I am a fan of this mask. I don't use it too often, maybe once or twice a week. It is pricey but as I mentioned I feel like it is priced at least comparable to its competitors. The brand I had not tried before this but after trying I would definitely try other skincare items from them since this one was great. All around good detoxifier.
The Malibu Mud is charcoal grey and has the consistency of a cream. It is provided in a 3.5 ounce jar. Among its ten ingredients are four abrasive/absorbent materials: charcoal, Kaolin, Bentonite, and Dead Sea Mud (scrolls are not included). The charcoal gives it its color. Dead Sea Mud is especially good because it is rich in magnesium, which can improve skin and muscles. As I spread it, I did not feel any grittiness. It cleaned the excess oil off my face. However. after removing it with warm water, I kept finding grey spots that I had missed. It works better to use it before showering.
this is one of the better charcoal masks i’ve used from vine. the cheaper ones tend to have coarser grit and my skin is not a fan! it’s not too drying like some other charcoal masks and not abrasive at all, so i like it. i use this and a green clay mask i rly like once a week and my pores haven’t looked better. some masks don’t really give you a glow or refreshed skin look after use but this does for me. of course ymmv depending on your skin but for mine, it’s been good. if you have a similar skin type (starting to show aging, normal to combination skin, slightly sensitive, no acne) as me, you’ll probably enjoy this as well.
I have oily skin and have suffered from acne in the past. Summer is a tough time for me and even when I apply sunscreen and wash up at the end of the day my skin just feels gross. I may even be slightly photosensitive. A lot of masks are more "peel" type masks which I didn't want for end of the day post sun soothing, and even more masks have really awful unnecessary ingredients. When possible I stick to making my own masks for this reason but I'll try stuff like this if it has good ingredients. These ingredients are all pretty much something I'd put myself in a mask other than two natural coconut based preservatives I haven't heard of as the last ingredients but look to be more than safe. Putting the ingredients through a beauty ingredients checker confirmed what I had thought, that the ingredients are all more than safe and non irritating, with the possible exception of lavender oil. I personally am a fan of lavender oil for skin care stuff but I know that some people can be sensitive to it so that's something to be aware of.
The lavender oil scent in this is really mild and non overpowering. My skin didn't sting or feel irritated at all so at least for me the amount of lavender oil in it is perfect, especially as someone who is acne prone, it can help with that. The consistency was really smooth and I was surprised how little I needed to cover my full face. I would say that 20 uses is a fair estimate, with some products like this you really get only 3-4 uses out of it!
It dried really quickly and was easy to wash off. I did have a concern that with the charcoal in it that it would be harder to do so but in this case it wasn't. When I went to put on my daily skin care cream afterwards my skin felt soo much softer after this mask! I'll for sure be interested in how this helps my skin with feeling tired at the end of the day after sun exposure and if it helps my complexion in the long term.
I'm taking off one star because I do think it is a bit pricey but since this is made in California with great ingredients and you do actually get 20 uses out of it it's worth it if you like these kinds of masks. I also like that it would be easy to take on a trip or something if you're the kind of person who usually mixes their own masks.
